Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Landscape

DUGHET, Gaspard (Also known as Gaspard Poussin. Adopted brother-in-laws name (Poussin, Nicholas).)

This classical landscape was inspired by the landscape around Rome. The view is stylized and each tree, rock and figure has been carefully placed to present a harmonious, balanced composition. Dughet's work was popular with travellers on the Grand Tour and many of his paintings were brought back to Britain. He is sometimes called Gaspard Poussin, as he was a pupil and brother-in-law of the famous French artist Nicolas Poussin.
