Prehistoric flint awl
This is a burnt flint awl of either Neolithic or Bronze Age in date.
The awl is made on the proximal fragment of a blade that has been brought to an oblique termination at its distal end. The retouch at the tip is very marginal but brings the tool to a point suggesting it might have been used as an awl.
It was recovered from the grave fill of SK255. Many of the FML Early Medieval burial fills were mixed with small fragments for earlier eras.
