Chair

The 1951 Llanrwst Eisteddfod chair was the gift of the Welsh people of Patagonia. They contributed worth £80 in pesos towards the chair that was made in Wales, not Patagonia. It was designed by Ellis Berwyn Evans - a design that was adapted for other Eisteddfoddau in the 1950s.

In the winning ode of 1951 by Brinley Richards (Brinli), he describes a chilling scene of soldiers from two World Wars disturbed in their graves due to the threat to world peace once again. This was the period of the Korean War and first experiments of the hydrogen bomb.

Solid wood construction with undyed hide upholstered seat and back. Plain wood curving arms supported by carvings of South American Indians. Front legs tapered. Back legs curved. Back of seat covered with leather also. Back of seat has tooled depiction of dragon rampant in the leather.
