S.S. NIOBE, negative
¾ Starboard bow view of S.S. NIOBE at Cardiff Docks.
EC2-S-C1 type ship built 1942 as troop carrier ANDREW FURUSETH by Permanente Metals Corporation (Shipbuilding Division), Richmond, California (with engine by Joshua Hendy Ironworks,Sunnyvale, California) for US War Shipping Administration, managed by Matson Navigation Co., San Francisco. 1946 – Sold to Skibs A/S Essi and registered under the Norwegian flag, managed by Bj Ruud-Pedersen, Oslo. She was renamed ESSI in 1947. 1959 – Sold to Compania Oceanica de Navegacion SA., Panama, and renamed NIOBE registered at Piraeus and managed by D.J.Negroponte, New York. She was broken up at Hirao, Japan in 1967. (mariners-l.co.uk/libships)
