Pot-lid
Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top, the flange and underside of the lid partially obscured by the frame; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'England's Pride', showing a heraldic design with an elaborate shield shape with to the top the inscription "HONI QUI MAL Y PENSE" printed in a circle around a coat of arms with a lion and a unicorn to either side with a scrolling banner beneath them printed with the inscription "DIEU DROIT", to the centre of the shield shape is a head and shoulders portrait of Queen Victoria printed within an oval panel, around the bottom of the design is the inscription "ENGLAND'S PRIDE", any border which may enclose the print is obscured by the frame. The pot-lid cracked and repaired, the glaze crazed. The pot-lid mounted for display in a close-fitting circular wooden frame painted black.
