Medieval copper alloy armorial mount
Gilt armorial mount from either a belt or harness fitting, bearing the arms assumed by Owain Glyndwr as Prince of Wales. Two of the four fixing rivets remain.
Very few objects associated with Owain Glyndŵr survive. This armorial mount from a sword belt or horse harness is a rare example. It was found in Harlech Castle, which he captured in 1404 and held until 1408/9. The shield of arms depicted on it was adopted by Glyndŵr as Prince of Wales, from 1400. By 1409 the tide had turned against his campaign and by 1415 Glyndŵr had disappeared without trace.
