Truncheon
The painting and decorating of a truncheon was more than just ornamentation - by having a royal crown or coat of arms, it showed that the constable was acting with the authority of the Crown
Special constable's truncheon. Painted black, some paint now gone. Royal crown and cypher 'VR' painted on. Unpainted and turned at one end to form handgrip, Turned butt, with 2 holes at neck through which fabric cord is attached. PARKER HOLBORN stamped on butt. Inscription dates manufacture to 1837 - 1841
