Early Medieval pottery vessel
Large globular vessel, with rim and base missing. Diagonal throwing marks at the base of the neck showthat it is a fairly closed form. This vessel is noticaebly whiter than any other vessel on the site and of a distinctive form not noted elsewhere in the Eware assemblage. One neck sherd was found beneath Bank 1 with two other E ware sherds (E45), along with 6th century Mediterranean imports and the lead die for a zoomorphic brooch. It may be that this is a particularly early example of E ware.
