Second Lieutenant Arthur Wellesley Rees Evans (1898 – 1965) of Cardiff joined the Royal Flying Corps in August 1917. On 21 October 1918, along with his observer Lieutenant R. W. L. Thomson, he flew to bomb Cologne, but failed to return. He was taken prisoner and sent to Limburg Prisoner of War Camp in Germany. His father, Eli Evans, received many correspondence concerning his disappearance. Wellesley returned to Cardiff on 10 December 1918.
