Reverend William Jenkins Rees (1772-1855)
HUGHES, Hugh (The largely self-taught Hugh Hughes had a long career as a portrait and landscape painter in Wales, working mostly for middle class, Nonconformist patrons.)
Born in Carmarthenshire, William Jenkins Rees (1772-1855) vicar of Casob, Radnorshire and prebendary of Christ College, Brecon, was a leader in the revitalisation of the Cymmrodorion Society and the Eisteddfod. The sitter noted 'the view Mr Hughes considered most expressive of my character is a three-quarter face and...he has drawn it with considerable success.'
