Early Medieval iron object
Tanged iron object, tapering slightly towards the tang in plan, but flat with bevelled edges in section. Perhaps the eraser end on a stylus, though it is rather thick for such a purpose. There is a what similar head on an iron pin from Carraig Aille which has also been interpreted as a stylus (fig 10, 69H; p.93); but Roman styli appear to have been rather smaller, eg. Newstead (Pl LXXX).
