barber's portable neck rest presumably used to adjust position of client's head at a basin or during shaving; narrow block of varnished wood; flat base with cork layer for grip; curved trough-like top to fit neck shape; covered in brown leather; two holes at either end of block of wood for threading of rope to hold rest in place; one piece of rope still in place
