Plate

Stone, Coquerel and Le Gros
Watts, William
SANDBY, Paul (after)

Hard-paste porcelain dessert plate, the centre decorated with a circular transfer-print in brown of Picton Castle, simplified from an engraving by William Watts (1752-1851) after Paul Sandby (1729-1809). In the foreground an untopographical river with boat, probably added to the printing plate in place of an inscription, framed within a plain gilt border; the cavetto with a broader gilt band, slightly rubbed; the rim transfer-printed in green with continuous vignettes of hunting and travel between gilt borders
