Roman copper alloy phalera
Harness phalera with an inlaid petal design on the front and the stubs of two rectangular loops on the back. Of Bishops Functional Type 1e, with rearward loops slanting inwards towards the bottom. Phalerae of this construction served to ornament harness straps, to which they were further secured by means of a central rivet, but had no provision for the suspension of pendants. The decorative motif is similar to that on a harness phalera and studs from Fremington Hagg and on some of the harness studs from Xanten in the British Museum.
