Hat box
Brown leather hat box designed to hold a top hat.
The hat sits crown first into the box with the brim resting on a shaped, padded support. The base of the box is constructed from 5 main pieces of leather moulded to shape and stitched together. The box stands on 4 brass feet and has a brass lock but no key. The lid was once attached by a strap at the back which formed a hinge but has now become detached. There is a carrying strap on top which is fixed by 2 brass tacks. The inside of the box is lined with red cotton sateen with yellow topstitched stripes. The sides and base are stiffened but the brim rest is padded. The hat is held in place by means of a leather strap with elasticated ends and metal clasp.
