Roman bone working waste
Sheep scapula, snapped off at both ends. The centre of the blade retains a partly drilled disc, 25mm in diameter overlapping with a smaller disc 20mm diameter to one side. The larger disc has been cut by an implement with a cutting surface of 3mm to judge by the distance of the outer cut diameter to the 19mm of the intended disc. The surface of the larger disc has broken, revealing the cancellous tissue beneath. This was presumably the reason for the discarding of the scapula.
