Pleistocene hippopotamus tooth
All part of Col. E.R. Wood's collection of 1859 (see accession file for details). A 4th deciduous premolar tooth of a hippopotamus. It is heavily worn. One root is intact, the others approximately half survive. The crown is substantially complete, although a small area of enamel is missing on one side. The bone is a white colour and the enamel the same.

Site Name: Gower, Swansea
Notes: Andy Currant, Natural History Museum, London believes that this may be from Ravenscliff Cave as the only record of Hippo in a Gower Cave is from Ravenscliff Cave. This is likely to be from the Col. E.R. Wood Collection.
