Turandot, animation artwork
Cartŵn Cymru (Based in south Wales, animation company Cartŵn Cymru produced several TV series and specials between 1989 and 2003, including: Toucan ‘Tecs (S4C/ Children’s ITV), Funnybones (S4C/CBBC), Turandot (S4C/BBC2), Testament (S4C/BBC2), The Miracle Maker (S4C/ British Screen/Icon Entertainment/BBC Wales), Faeries (CITV/HIT Entertainment) and Otherworld (S4C/British Screen/ACW National Lottery Fund).
Cartŵn Cymru recruited a freelance team of tracers and painters who could easily work from home. Many of these were women with young children and the flexibility meant they could plan the work around family life. Also
with the home workforce the company didn’t have to find a huge studio space for employees. They collected the work, consisting of animation drawings, paint and cel, from the studios. Once finished, the artwork was returned, where the process of filming the animation would take place.)
