Wynnstay Colliery medal 1874

Medal 'Presented by the New British Iron Company for courage shown in connection with the fire at the Wynnstay Colliery, 1874'. The medals were distributed by the manager, George Thomson, to thirty-eight recipients in a tent in the Wynnstay Colliery grounds on 7 June 1875. Each recipient also received two sovereigns, the workers in cash and the management in bank notes. A report of the event was published in the Wrexham and Denbighshire Advertiser on 12 June 1875.

Circular silver metal (no hallmark) medal. Inscription on obverse within a laurel wreath and inscription on reverse.
