Shackles
It is believed that Field & Sons, or Parker Field & Sons, may not have actually manufactured handcuffs but put their name, as vendors on those supplied by Hiatt of Birmingham
Long iron chain with 6 cuffs to retain prisoners during transportation. Cuffs are engraved with numbers, 1,3,2,10,16 and 4. The cuff at one end, marked 4, has a barrell lock and is stamped FIELD & SONS 233 HOLBORN LONDON. The other 5 cuffs are all stamped HIATT. The cuffs are attached to the chain through loops which also bear the same numbers, but cuff No. 3 is attached to loop No. 2 and vice versa. The stamp dates the shackles to between 1842 - 1877.
