East Moors steelworks, watercolour
Worthington, Margaret (Mrs) (Margaret Worthington was born in Exeter. Her father was a surgeon and also a talented painter who taught her the technique of watercolour painting, particularly the direct approach to the subject out of doors.
During the war she worked as a scientist and flight observer at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. A group of her watercolours of this period are now in the R.A.F. Museum at Hendon.
Her main interest has always been landscape and especially the influence of the weather and the changing patterns of the clouds. She has travelled widely. Her work includes a number of studies of industrial subjects, particularly in the U.S.A. She also has an interest in flower painting.
In 1974 she held her first exhibition, in Richmond, Surrey. This was followed by two short shows in Angers, France and one in Dortmund, Germany. She has had exhibitions at Green College, Oxford and two shows at Clarges Gallery in London. She is a member of the Chelsea Art Society where she exhibits regularly, as well as supporting a local art society (Honiton Art Society). Since 1984 she has exhibited at the Paris Salon, winning a Silver Medal in 1984 and the Ernest Marché Prize for Landscape in 1987.
Her pictures are in private collections in many countries, in the collections of Green College, and the Society of Occupational Medicine in London.)
