Nantgarw China Works (1813 - 1822)
Plate, soft-paste porcelain; standing on a tapered foot rim curving into cushion moulded and curved spreading sides, and lobed lip; painted in polychrome enamels in the centre with an Italianate landscape - a woman riding a donkey across a river with a shepherd and his four sheep, buildings on the left bank and a Classical ruin on a hill in the distance; cavetto bordered by a gilt band and interlocking inverted c-scrolls; delicate gilt lambrequin and scroll border to lip.
