Cow tie
Used for tying a cow to a post in a cowhouse by using a bent hazel rod inserted into each end of a rectangular One end of the rod is attached permanently to the bar, and the other inserted into a slot where it can be moved back and forth to open or close the tie. In appearance it looks like the capital letter D. The rod is placed around the cow's head and then into the slot. The tension in the curved rod locks it in place. The tie is attached to a post by a smaller version, the stick fitting around the wooden neck bar.
The rod on the cow tie has broken off and is missing. The small tie for attaching it to the post is complete.
