Hollowing knife
A clog knife used for hollowing the upper side and edges of the wooden sole. It comprises a curved blade on a long metal shaft, with a hook at one end and a short wooden handle at the other. The detachable blade is fitted into a slot in the shaft and secured in place with a bolt. The hook would be attached to a metal ring fixed to the clogmaker's bench. The clogmaker held the wooden sole in one hand on the bench and the handle of the knife in the other. Using the knife required strength, dexterity and co-ordination. G.Beech 25/07/13
