Bottle

Evans & Glasson, Cambrian Pottery (1851 - 1862)

Bottle or harvest jug, creamy white earthenware with a finely crazed, blue tinted, glaze; wheel-thrown oviform body with spreading base and short neck, around which are two bands of moulded beading,two further similar bands at the shoulders widely spaced, one below the centre of the body and three more round the base and foot; double scroll ribbed handle at the neck with projecting thumb-rest; printed in underglaze blue with a continuous sheet pattern of red currants and foliage over a meander of tiny stars, reserved on each side with a circular print in underglaze black, titled 'ROYAL VISIT TO PLACE HOUSE FOWEY SEPTr 8.1846' and 'SWANSEA HARBOUR AND TOWN', inscribed on the front with RM and 1850 in underglaze black script; two large chips in the base glazed over.
