ELLEN JAMES, painting

The three-masted topsail schooner ELLEN JAMES calling for a pilot off Genoa. Signed bottom left. Undated.

The wooden three-masted topsail schooner ELLEN JAMES was built by D. Williams at Portmadoc in 1904. Owned by J. Jones & Co. and skippered by Captain J. Jones himself, she was registered in Caernarfon at 165 tons gross (137 net) and measured 101 feet in length with a 23 foot beam. She spent her career in the salt fish trade having replaced her predecessor of the same name which had been wrecked in December 1902. Cafodd y sgwner bren tri mast ELLEN JAMES ei adeiladu gan D. Williams ym Mhorthmadog ym 1904. J. Jones & Co. oedd perchnogion y llong a J. Jones ei hun oedd ei chapten. Cafodd ei chofrestru yng Nghaernarfon, yn pwyso 165 tunnell gros (137 net) ac yn mesur 101 troedfedd o hyd gyda thrawst 23 troedfedd. Fe'i defnyddiwyd i gludo pysgod hallt, yn lle llong o'r un enw a ddrylliwyd ym 1902.
