Feminine Side of the Auan Native Fisheries, glass negative
Garlanded women preparing to net the fish in the family "Coral Hole" trap the first stage of the proceedings.
The original caption uses the term ‘shock-headed’ to describe Afro/textured hair, which has negative connotations.
This collection of photographs was likely copied from an article in The Illustrated London News (22 September 1928). The article is negative in its portrayal of the fishing method by describing it as “primitive”. The photos were originally taken by George Henry Lane-Fox Pitt-Rivers - a eugenicist and anti-Semite.
