Morning: the Glamorgan canal
THOMAS, Edgar Herbert (1862-1936)
Thomas became an illustrator for 'The Western Mail', in 1880, and attracted the support of the 3rd Marquess of Bute. After a period in the London studio of Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema, Thomas studied in Antwerp and Paris. Unusually, he returned to Wales and tried with little success to make a career as a professional painter in Cardiff. Several works, including two paintings of the Glamorgan Canal, were included in 'An Exhibition of Works by Certain Modern Artists of Welsh Birth or Extraction', organised by the National Museum of Wales in 1913-14.
