Parker, Mary (Daughter of Thomas Netherton Parker of Sweeney Hall, Oswestry, she became Lady Leighton on marrying Sir Baldwin Leighton, 7th baronet, of Loton, Shropshire.)
Photograph of a print titled 'The Ladies of Llangollen' at Plas Newydd, Llangollen. The print was engraved by R.J. Lane, from an original watercour drawn by Mary Parker taken from sketches she made from life in 1828.
The Ladies of Llangollen are probably the most famous lesbian couple in history. Lady Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby fled Ireland when their families tried to separate them. They lived together at Plas Newydd in Llangollen for over fifty years.
