Penrhyn Quarry, slide
Three members of a Bargain Gang making slates at Penrhyn Quarry. Tools used include the Rhys Mawr (large mallet), manholt (broad bladed chisels), cyllel fawr (large crank-handled knife as used by the man on the left), and trafal (a sloping stool & bench on which is mounted a fixed cutting edge). Measuring stick seen on left hand side, each notch denoting size of slate e.g. Queen, Lady, Duchess etc.
