¾ Starboard bow view of M.V. THORSHAVN at Cardiff Docks.

Tanker built 1950 by J.L.Thompson & Sons Ltd., Sunderland, for Bryde & Dahl Whaling Co., A/S (Thor Dahl, Sandefjord). 1963 – Sold to Compania Whiteleaf Naviera SA, Panama, and renamed MAR DEL PLATA. 1966 – Sold to Skibs A/S Avanti, Oslo, and renamed SIPLATA, managed by H.F. Tschudi. 1968 – Sold to Dovar Shipping Corp., Panama, and renamed SOVERINO. 1969 – Sold to P.N. Pertambangan Miniak Dan Gas Bumi Nasional (“Pertamina”), Jakarta, and renamed PERMINA 106. While loading petrol at Sungai Gerong, Sumatra, on 13 October 1969, a fire on board a passing sampan caused a major explosion and the resulting blaze caused extensive damage to the ship and killing five crew. The vessel was deemed a total constructive loss and she was broken up at Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1970.
