Pot-lid
Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top, the flange and underside of the lid partially obscured by the frame; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'Rifle Contest, Wimbledon 1865', showing an outdoors scene with in the foreground groups of figures, some on horseback, and tents, and in the background figures shooting at ranks of targets, around the bottom of the scene is printed the inscription "RIFLE CONTEST WIMBLEDON 1865", any border which may enclose the print is obscured by the frame. The glaze crazed, the edge of the top of the lid and the flange chipped. The pot-lid mounted for display in a close-fitting circular wooden frame painted black.
