Medieval ceramic floor tiles
Lewis Group 56 no.767
Counter-relief. Corner of 16-tile pattern: circle formed by short camfered uprights alternating with pairs of squared dots, interrupted by a fleur-de-lys, which springs from the lower corner. Rushen Abbey, Isle of Man (Jewitt 1885, no.2). For the style of the circle cf.356-58 (where it may be intended to represent a park pale); see also BM Design 460 (unprovenanced) and Chester 37/312 (Rutter 1990).
