Early Medieval iron strap fitting
Iron eye or strap loop with two flat terminals at right angles to the plane of the loop itself. The terminals appear to have been perforated, perhaps for attachment to aa strap, and have broken acoss the holes. Similar loops; in bronze, occur in Pagan Saxon graves, eg Holywell Row, graves 70 and 85; Burwell, graves 6, 61, 83. In iron such loops occur at Lagore, in one case as a rein-attachment for a horse-bit (fig 37, B and C). Another slightly larger one from XV (1); H.
