Roman copper alloy knee brooch
The head of a knee brooch. The spring for the pin is supported on an axial bar which passes through two pierced lugs at the rear of the head; above the spring a narrow band of bronze emerges from the rear of the head and links the two lugs as if to form a casing but in fact leaving the spring exposed. The internal chord is loose. The head is semi-circular and undecorated. The rounded knee of the bow is facetted.
