William Philby's first day at Big Pit 1903, photograph
William Philby on his first day working at Big Pit Colliery, Blaenafon, in 1903, seen here with his uncle Alfred. William Philby was born on 7 May 1891, and came from Buckinghamshire (Missenden) to Wales when he was 12 years old. He died in 1974 of pnuemoconiosis. Printed on postcard with inscription on reverse.
