Mattress
White feather-filled mattress: white cotton tabby fabric cover over inner cover of blue/white/tan-striped herringbone twill cotton ticking.
White cotton outer cover has a patch 20.5 x 26cm on one side. This is neatly inserted using hand stitches. The cover is made from one large piece: machine stitched along the length and finished off across the width with coarse, handsewn overcast stitches. Small fragments of white material have been added on along the width.
The coarse overcast stitches closing the cover across the width are not in keeping with the other stitches including the patch, so it is likely that the cover was opened up (perhaps to remove for cleaning) and put on again.
