Prehistoric flint awl
A thick irregular flake of fine dark grey flint with cortex back. The cortex is buff/grey and very thin. There is alternate steep trimming on both side edges to produce a heavy point, the tip of which has a small amount of trimming or use damage. However, it is very fresh and this, with its rather informal style suggest it might just be a spurious tool on ballast flint.
