Early Medieval copper alloy penannular brooch
Broken and bent fragment with dark brown rough surface. no remains of decoration or of stone setting material. Surface eroded away on one area on reverse, and near stone setting. Object appears very stable.
Copper alloy penannular brooch terminal of flattened expanded form. A circular collet at the junction of the hoop and terminal once held a glass or amber stud now missing. The terminal is recessed externally and is perforated by three small holes probably a means of attachment for a now missing decorative metal inlay (gold or silver). There are two larger holes at the extremities of the fragment which may be secondary.
