Aerial view, construction of Queen Elizabeth II Dock, Eastham, the Wirral. Seen from the east. Construction began 1949 and the dock became operational on 19th January 1954. Built to handle oil tankers, pipelines were laid to serve an oil refinery at Stanlow, Ellesmere Port. Later, larger vessels were accomodated at offshore berths at Anglesey.
