Waistcoat worn by two members of the South Wales Basset Hounds. Front panels made from yellow wool: twill weave with fine dark brown and white check (stripes consist of three picks, 2cm apart). Rear panel, lining and rear belt made from pale yellow tabby-woven synthetic fabric. Five brass shank buttons (Ø=1.5cm) secured with reverse linen bars, belt fastens with two-prong tinned brass buckle. Two front pockets lined with twill khaki cotton. Button holes are very worn around edges and have been repaired. Triangular insert of pale peach-coloured synthetic fabric in centre back serves to adapt the waistcoat for a larger size.
