M.V. BRITISH HARMONY, glass negative

Three quarter Starboard Bow view of M.V. BRITISH HARMONY, about 1947/1948.

The British Tanker Co. Ltd. was established in April 1915 as the original shipping division of the Anglo-Persian Oil Co. Ltd., re-named in 1954 as the British Petroleum Co. Ltd. (BP). The British Harmony was an 8,463 gross ton motor tanker built at Wallsend in 1941; she is seen here arriving at Cardiff, c.1948. She continued in service until 1960 when she was sold and scrapped at Troon. (Source: Shipping at Cardiff: Photographs from the Hansen Collection 1920-1975 by David Jenkins, 1993).

M.V. BRITISH HARMONY (8453gt). Built 1941 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd, Neptune Yard, Tyneside, for British Tanker Co. Ltd, London (an offshoot of the Anglo-Persian Oil Co.). She survived the Second World War and was broken up in October 1960 at the West of Scotland Shipbreaking Co. Ltd, Troon.
