Seal impression: Royal
Reverse. The king in ringed mail hauberk, on horseback to sinister, his left hand grasping an oval or pear-shaped shield, showing its riveted interior. His right hand holds a sword (for the first time on English royal equestrian seals). Beaded border. The legend shows that this seal was engraved subsequent to the capture of Duke Robert of Normandy in 1106 at the Battle of Tinchebrai, after which Henry assumed his title. C.H. Blair (Arch. Ael. Infra) saw the lettering of the legend as the same in style as that on the First Seal of William II.
