Iron Age / Roman iron penannular brooch
About half of an iron penannular brooch of circular cross section with part of the pin and attachment surviving. Iron penannular brooches from Dinorben Hillfort (Gardiner and Savory 1964, p132, fig.19.4) and Whitton (Jarrett and Wrathnell 1981, p196, no.50) correspond to Fowlers (1960) type A would date to the second or first centuries BC. However, iron penannular brooches are also known from Roman contexts at Lougher and Coygan Camp but are distinguishable by different terminals. As the terminals do not survive on this example it is impossible to be more precise until contextual information is known. Alternatively this may be part of a loop-headed spike and ring.
