Chest
two panelled top chest with channel moulded and carved running ornament in the framework, and lozenges with leaf corners and enclosing rosettes in the panels; raised or stile feet with decorative brackets to bottom rail; original lock and till-box missing ; staple hinges; quarter sawn oak throughout
This two-panelled chest displays some typical motifs seen on Welsh furniture during the 1600s. The similarities between pieces from bordering counties is to be expected when we consider that carvers would have travelled around to work. The centre panels are carved with rosettes within a ‘lozenge’ or diamond-shape frame. It dates to around 1630 and comes from Mongomeryshire.
