Shoes, wedding

Shoes worn by Annie Elizabeth Williams on her wedding day

Annie Williams from Ninian Road, Cardiff and boxer Jack Petersen married at St. Mary's Church, Marshfield on 9th October 1935. The reception was held at St. Mellons Country Club. 3,000 people gathered to try and catch a glimpse of the couple. Petersen was so famous at the time that the wedding was covered by Pathe News

Jack Petersen OBE TD (2 September 1911 - 22 November 1990)

Jack Petersen was born in Whitchurch, Cardiff. He was a Welsh boxing hero during the 1930s and became the first Welshman to win the British and Empire light heavyweight and heavyweight titles. He was one of Britian's biggest box office draws, fighting in front of crowds of up to 50,000 at Cardiff's Ninian Park.

An eye injury forced Petersen to retire at 25 and he later became a city councillor and deputy chairman of the Sports Council for Wales
