Jug, creamy-white earthenware, heavily blued pearl-glaze, ovoid body with moulded footrim, straight neck, with projecting spout and simple loop handle; decorated with underglaze blue transfer-prints comprising on one side a portrait bust of Nelson, three ships behind, in an oval frame which bears the Trafalgar signal, the title Nelson above, within wreaths of laurel, and flanked with marine trophies, arabesques and foliage, and with a laudatory verse below; on the other side two ships of the line exchanging broadsides in a similar oval frame of arabesques and foliage, the title Victory above, and surrounded by further marine trophies; below the spout an oval reserve containing Nelson's name and titles, surrounded by flags, sunrays, an anchor and a buoy, below and encircled in floral garlands are the names of his three great victories; border round the neck of floral scrolls, ball and dot ornament and two trophies comprising flags, pennons, pikes, spears, trumpet, speaking trumpet, telescope, bayonet and fouled anchor; running border of leaf ornament within the rim, and a band of leaves and flowers on the handle; the lip edged in brown enamel.
