In base, between scrolled pillars, the archbishop kneels in prayer; to either side, a shield bearing, on distinct impressions: dext. CANTERBURY (E17) impaling a cross upon which the Greek letters: X and I in pale, DEANERY OF CANTERBURY: sin. quarterly, 1. and 4. on a chevron between three pelicans in piety, as many cinquefoils; 2. six lioncels rampant, in pile, within a border; 3. five fusils in fess, charged with as many escallops: CRANMER.
