LINEN, embroidered with coloured silks in cross stitch. Divided horizontally into three compartments by narrow bands of zig-zag and lozenge ornament. In the first compartment are Gothic letters of the alphabet in two rows commencing with a cross and a female figure; in the second compartment, in three rows, are Roman capital letters of the alphabet commencing with a cross beneath which is an altar; the third compartment contains various detached designs including a monstrance, candlesticks, cow, cockerel, gridiron, crown and ewer, the name “m.t.goethuys” and numerals to 10. There is a varied narrow geometric border.
