MARQUET, Albert (1875 - 1947)
Briefly associated with the Fauvist group, from 1905 Marquet specialised increasingly in views of ports and rivers, frequently painted from an elevated viewpoint. He excelled in the depiction of watery effects, as in this study of wet weather in Algeria, where he lived during the Second World War. This work was purchased by Margaret Davies in 1960.
